Juan Soto shocked the baseball world earlier this week when he chose to sign a contract with the New York Mets. Both sides agreed on a 15-year, $765 million contract, making him the richest player in the league.

It did not take the four-time All-Star long to decide where he saw himself in the future. He enjoyed the Mets presentation alongside how he felt the club was building for their future.

However, it was not just the presentation. According to MLB insider Mike Rodriguez, Soto was not happy with how he or his family were treated by the Yankees organization.

“$760M vs $765M is not a reason to leave a team as glorious as the Yankees, but when you don’t treat the player or his family well, that completely changes the player’s decision” said Rodriguez.

In his article, Rodriguez goes on to explain that from the start, the relationship was not the greatest. The Yanks introduced their newest star player over Zoom, which left much to be desired.

The article then goes on to mention how Soto felt left out. There were allegedly multiple team parties and celebrations that were organized by Aaron Judge to which Soto was not invited.

Mike Rodriguez points to one more reason for Juan Soto choosing the Mets over the Yankees. He alleges that the slugger’s family had suffered mistreatment from the team’s security personnel.

One of the instances came when Soto’s father tried to enter the clubhouse to bring him food, but he was denied entry. This has been standard procedure for years now.

Another incident came when somebody intended to drive Soto home but wanted to wait in a crowded parking lot. however, they were told to stay outside the area until after the game.

While both of these incidents seemed to be standard procedure by the team’s personnel, they still rubbed Soto the wrong way. Add all of these things up, and the slugger was looking to play elsewhere in the future.

Now, the Yankees will have to watch Soto likely shine in the blue and orange while the fanbase sits back and wonders what could have been. He and Francisco Lindor are expected to be a two-headed monster atop that lineup.
