‘Lewandowski called me first. My family and friends said I’d be stupid if I didn’t accept this’: Wojciech Szczesny on Barcelona move
“He [Robert Lewandowski] was probably the very first person to call me, to ask me if there was any chance of this happening [Szczesny coming out of retirement], because I was already retired,” Wojciech Szczesny has told Barcelona’s official website.
“So it took some convincing because I wasn’t sure I was ready for new challenges, but then I spoke to my family, I spoke to my friends, and they said how stupid I would be if I didn’t accept this. I agreed with them.
“Robert played a big part because he was the very first person to call me, to have this idea,” the Pole concluded.
Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Wojciech Szczesny as a free agent until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old is replacing Marc-Andre ter Stegen who picked up a season-ending injury in September.
Wojciech Szczesny retired from football after making 35 appearances for Juventus last season, conceding 30 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets in Serie A. The shotstopper also played for Arsenal, Roma and Brentford in his career.
