LeBron James gave no hints about his future after a disappointing season.
As LeBron James rests at home, the most important thought on every Los Angeles Lakers fan’s mind is whether their leading superstar will continue leading their team next season. The team knows that James is eyeing three major situations to work in his favor for him to pick up his player option. One of them involves his son, Bronny James, and the draft. NBA insider Shams Charania revealed a scoop.
While speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Shams Charania was asked if he had any update on James and his son’s future.
LeBron James still, from everything I hear, wants to play up to 2 more NBA seasons. The Lakers want to bring him back. They do have interest in bringing Bronny James in as a draft pick. LeBron James has until June 29th to pick up his option or not. He also would want to see what moves do the Lakers make before that option date.Shams Charania said
Considering his substantial connections, this essentially confirms that the Lakers want to draft Bronny James. He also said that James Jr. will be evaluated for his physical condition soon.
LeBron James has made no secret in suggesting that he wants to play with his son before he retires. If that means he has to leave the Lakers, then he’ll do that. This is what the team wants to avoid. Their leading superstar might be 39 years old, but he still is the de facto face of the league.
“LeBron James want to play up to two more seasons & obviously the Lakers want to bring him back..
Having both father and son play in the Lakers jersey will also do wonders in terms of marketing. Add to that, Bronny James will be a cheap rookie 3-and-D player who should play well, or else his father will be there to ensure he does.
Lakers still have to meet LeBron James’ other two needs
The other two situations LeBron James wants the Los Angeles Lakers to meet are with regard to their next head coach, as well as assembling the right team around him. Yes, there is also the matter of a new contract, but he needs these two issues solved to his standards first.
They need a head coach adept at adjusting to the situation in the game and bold enough to take game-winning risks. That alone cost them games and even forced James to take over and design plays for the team.
The second is the team. An unbalanced roster that did not produce much is not good for their leader who is going into season 22.
After drawing a blank during the trade deadline, LeBron James will be looking at the Lakers front office. If they fail to make significant upgrades on these two points, drafting Bronny James might not be enough. Eventually, James might decline that player option and become a free agent.
