Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has reportedly been banned from attending the much-anticipated clash against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, September 29. Los Blancos have taken this step to ensure the Frenchman does not attract any negative attention from rival fans during the Madrid derby.

As per reports from French outlet L’Equipe (via Football Transfers), Real are keen on protecting Mbappe. The Frenchman suffered a thigh injury in their 3-2 win against Alaves at home last time around. The club believes he would be directly in the firing line of the Civitas Metropolitano crowd, who have a track record of being hostile towards Real Madrid players.

The injury comes as a major blow for the team as well as Kylian Mbappe, who only just hit top goalscoring form. He has scored seven goals and provided one assist in nine appearances across competitions this season, with five goals and one assist in seven La Liga games.

Mbappe has provided five goal contributions in his last five appearances for Real Madrid. His strike partners Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo will now have to shoulder the burden of goals in his absence. Los Blancos are currently second in the table with 17 points, with Atletico Madrid trailing them by just two points in third place.

Real will look to win this game and close the gap on runaway leaders Barcelona. Atleti, meanwhile, will aim to secure a win and leapfrog their crosstown rivals into second place.

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe part of AS Monaco’s special kit

Kylian Mbappe was recently included in an intricate piece of detailing on AS Monaco’s kit as the club celebrates 100 years of existence. The new version of the jersey includes names of players and managers who have played an integral part in the club’s history.

Kylian Mbappe came through the youth ranks at Monaco after being a part of their reputed academy between 2013-15. He impressed then-manager Leonardo Jardim immensely and made his debut for the senior team at the end of 2015. In the two years that followed, Mbappe made 60 appearances for the first team, netting 27 goals and providing 16 assists.

He then became Monaco’s most expensive sale when he agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017. Mbappe joined the Parisians on an initial one-year loan, which then turned into a mandatory €180 million purchase the following year.

Widely regarded as the best French footballer in the modern era, it is no surprise to see Monaco including Mbappe in their tribute kit.
