Jennifer Lopez didn’t do much to detract from the rumors of relationship problems when she recently admitted to refusing Ben Affleck’s help preparing for movie roles, despite his reputation as one of the most successful actors and directors in Hollywood.
While promoting her new film Atlas, Lopez admitted her rehearsal schedule is chaotic between prepping for her film role and her musical commitments (J.Lo announced a world tour earlier this year after the release of her last album, though ticket sales are apparently doing poorly).
J.Lo Says She Prefers To Work Apart From Ben
“Eight, nine, 10-hour days every day dancing, singing, ideating, saying, ‘That sucks. Start again. Let’s try that number,’” she explained. “It’s just a building of a whole show, you know, and that’s a big undertaking. Which I’m about to really delve into.”
When asked if she ever trains with her husband, Lopez had a quick response, insisting that she prefers to work alone. “No, no, no. I work on my own,” Jen said, adding Ben is often preoccupied with his own career and projects.
Jen didn’t expand on how her preference to work alone impacts her marriage, but a source told OK! Magazine the couple’s relationship is being tested amid their long distance. “She wants constant affirmation from him that she’s loved and adored,” they said. “But she’s not getting much of that now and Ben gets defensive and moody.”
“Of course she was a little hurt, but she knows he loves her,” they explained of why Affleck didn’t join Lopez at the Met Gala earlier this month. “He just needed a break from the red carpets and publicity that she craves.”
Ben Has Said He Values Privacy More Than J.Lo
Ben has previously said he prefers more privacy in his personal life, but has come to accept that his marriage will be in the public eye if he wants to be with Lopez, given that she’s more public facing.
“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,’” Ben said earlier this year while participating in J.Lo’s Amazon documentary. “Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’”
He added, “We’re just two people with different kinds of approaches trying to learn to compromise.”
While speaking to the camera, Lopez even acknowledged she knows she makes Ben uncomfortable, but she didn’t seem open to meeting him half way when it came to the publicized nature of their romance.
