Hansi Flick suffered two defeats in a row one month into his Bayern spell – he ended up winning treble that season
Barcelona suffered a shock 4-2 defeat in the Osasuna game on Saturday. It was Hansi Flick’s first La Liga loss – and the first time in eight league games the Catalans dropped points.
Some Blaugrana fans on social media have clearly overreacted to the loss as they began questioning Flick’s tactics or making unfavourable comparisons to Xavi.
It’s still very much early days in the 59-year-old’s tenure at Barcelona and he should not be judged that early.
Back in November 2019, Flick was appointed Bayern Munich’s interim manager as the club suffered a devastating 5-1 defeat to minnows Frankfurt.
The German steered the ship, guiding Die Roten to two victories against Dortmund and Fortuna. Bayern also beat Olympiacos and Red Star in the Champions League. However, two defeats followed the early success.
There was no panic or intense soul-searching for Flick after these two defeats – and Bayern went on a six-game Bundesliga winning streak, scoring 23 goals in the process.
By the end of the season, Die Roten won a treble, claiming the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League titles.
