Former Colorado Rockies outfielder Ryan Spilborghs has voiced his opinions on why the New York Yankees must retain infielders Jazz Chisholm Jr. and DJ LeMahieu. Moreover, the former MLB legend has also mentioned that the Yankees should target All-Star pitcher Tanner Scott.
Spilborghs shared his advice on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.
“I think they use DJ. I think you use your internal candidates. I think you put, to me, you put Jazz at second base and you don’t even mess with him as a third baseman. You just let him go. It doesn’t mean that I don’t think he can eventually play third base. I think he could because he’s a very athletic player,” Spilborghs said.
“I just think the comfort level, he’s enough the middle player. And, you know, you’ve seen some of the nuance of third base. It’s not a spot where you can really set your feet. It’s a little bit more handsy, a little more reactionary. And so, you know, DJ is really good about that,” he added.
The Bronx Bombers will look to figure out their roster before the Spring season starts in February 2025.
Yankees analyst gives solution for “sliding Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base”
Yankees analyst Robert Casey wrote about the problems the Bronx Bombers are facing in his blog, Bleeding Yankee Blue. Casey vouched for Matt Vierling at third base.
“Vierling isn’t the kind of player who’s going to have Yankee Stadium chanting his name, but his bat is slightly above average, and he can fill in at third base without making fans break into a cold sweat. Add him to the mix, and the Yankees could find themselves with a more stable infield, especially after losing key pieces in the offseason,” Casey said.
Moreover, he didn’t forget Jazz Chisholm Jr., advising the team to move the player to second base.“And let’s not forget the bonus move: sliding Jazz Chisholm back to second base. Chisholm’s athleticism at second is like giving your defense a shot of espresso — suddenly, everything’s sharper, faster and more effective,” he added.
There have been speculations about the Yankees making a move for Matt Vierling. Furthermore, Casey spoke about how his athleticism might prove like an asset for the team.
