The rapper could join a very select group of artists

Eminem is now close to reaching a rare milestone very few people ever have.

The rapper could be next in line to reach EGOT status after his performance at the Super Bowl half time show received an Emmy.

Slim took to the stage alongside some fellow greats of the game, including Dr Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar at SoFi Stadium earlier this year.

The iconic supergroup performed a 12-minute medley of some of their biggest hits to date, and the crowd inside the stadium and the millions watching at home went absolutely nuts for it.

Their set has now been recognised for Outstanding Variety Special at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

This means that Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, needs one more award before completing the fabled EGOT quartet.

The 49-year-old already has an Oscar for Best Original Song category for his hit ‘Lose Yourself’ from 8 Mile, and he has received 15 Grammy awards over the years for a variety of categories.

So he just needs a Tony award, which is reserved for Broadway productions, and he will join the likes of John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Audrey Hepburn and Whoopi Goldberg, who have all achieved the EGOT in their time.

You never know with Eminem, but not sure we’ll see him treading the boards anytime soon, tbh.

One of Slim’s fans recently shared a video after she stumbled across what she thought was a weird version of one of his biggest hits.

In a post to TikTok, @thebigturnip explained that the lyrics to ‘My Name Is’ weren’t quite how she remembered.

At first, she thought it might be a ‘Mandela effect’ – a false memory people collectively have, like the Monopoly man having a monocle or Walker’s cheese and onion crisps originally being in green bags (even though they definitely should be).

Then she wondered if Eminem had changed the lyrics to ‘My Name Is’ to make them ‘a lil more appropriate’, especially since many rappers release ‘clean’ versions of their music which are more suitable for broadcasting.

In another video, she played a much more explicit version of the track where she’d first heard the lyrics, leaving many confused about this version they’d never heard before.

The real answer is that there’s an unreleased (sort of, we’ll get to that) version of ‘My Name Is’, in which the lyrics are pretty different.

If you’re familiar with the song you’ll know the part: “My English teacher wanted to flunk me in Junior High. Thanks a lot, next semester I’ll be thirty five.”

In the unreleased original version, that line goes: “My English teacher wanted to have sex in junior high. The only problem was, my English teacher was a guy.”

Another changed lyric goes: “Extraterrestrial, running over pedestrians in a space ship. While they screaming at me ‘Let’s just be friends!'”

That line used to be: “Extra-terrestrial, killing pedestrians. Raping lesbians while they’re screaming ‘Let’s just be friends!'”

So what is the reason for the change?

Well, it’s because the tune contains a sample of Labbi Siffre’s track ‘I Got The…’ and the openly gay musician refused to give his approval unless the homophobic lyrics were removed.
