Eminem said he doubted he’d release any more music past 50 as he celebrates milestone birthday today

Eminem has previously hinted he may stop putting out music after turning 50 years old

Eminem has hit the big 50 today (17 October) but as he celebrates his milestone birthday, his career as a musician could be over.

Well, at least according to previous comments made by the rapper, the now 50-year-old hinted that he may stop putting out music after hitting the big 5-0.

Eminem has previously hinted he will stop making music at the age of 50.

In a previous interview with VIBE, the ‘Real Slim Shady’ rapper – then 37 years old – admitted he wasn’t sure ‘how much longer [he had] in [the] game’.

He said: “I’m always going to love hip-hop. But how much longer am I going to still do it? I couldn’t really give you an answer. But the day that this is not better than the last will probably be the day I stop.

“I do love it so much. But even if I was rapping at 50 [years old], I don’t know if I would put it out. I know it always makes me feel better to lay things to tape, and—’Lay the tape.’

“See, I’m old school. The fans might say the s*** is garbage. You don’t how long people are going to want you around…

“Realistically, if I don’t rap, what the f*** am I going to do? It’s too late to just be unfamous right now at this point.”

Eminem also joked to the outlet that he ‘hope[s]’ he doesn’t need the money to have to keep going. However, he also reflected how he wants to just be ‘regular’.

He said: “I don’t consider myself a star. Obviously, I know I’m a celebrity but I don’t look at myself in that light. I’m just me, man. It’s one of the reasons that I stay here [in Detroit].

“I don’t want the attention. I don’t like the attention. I don’t like all that s***. Yes, I love the respect and the admiration that some people show me but I don’t thrive off that whole thing.”

Eminem is going to be 50 years old this year and he’s nominated for hall of fame and performing at the super bowl half time show. What an Incredible year for his career. His longevity is really amazing. A poor kid from Detroit with a dream accomplished so much.

Of course, the whole retiring at 50 thing seems unlikely for the rapper, especially as he released his second greatest hits album, Curtain Call 2, a mere two months before his birthday.

Although the release was a compilation of his well-known tracks like ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and ‘Rap God’, he also released two new tracks with ‘The King and I’, featuring CeeLo Green, and ‘From the D 2 the LBC’ with Snoop Dogg.

LADbible has contacted a representative of Eminem for comment.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see whether the ‘Rap God’ is really wrapping things up for good.
