'Don’t worry, you will get at least 10 appearances this season': Faye's agent reveals Hansi Flick's unkept promise to the player

Croatian football agent Andy Bara has revealed the reasons behind Mika Faye’s departure from Barcelona.

Speaking on the Nogometni Podcast the other day, he shared:

“Faye left because of the situation with Dani Olmo. He didn’t want to leave, and Barcelona didn’t want to sell him either.

“They needed to balance the books for financial fair play, so he had to go. Barca initially planned to sell Inigo Martínez, but he refused to leave.

“During the USA tour, Hansi Flick told Faye, ‘Don’t worry, you will get at least 10 appearances this season, and from next season, we’ll see how things go.’ Faye agreed, and we were all happy.

“But Barcelona wanted Olmo, so they had to sell a few players. I used my player [Faye] to help the club in that situation and explained everything to him.”

Despite Flick’s promises, the Catalans ultimately had to sell Faye to Rennes.

However, they included a 25% sell-on clause and a €35m buy-back option, ensuring they retain some future control over the talented defender’s career.
