David Beckham has expressed his belief that Travis Kelce is well-equipped to handle the fame that comes with his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift.
On the May 8 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Beckham was asked whether he’s offered Kelce any guidance on dealing with media attention. “Do you ever talk to, like, Travis Kelce and say, ‘Hey, man, here’s what you have to expect’?” inquired Jimmy Kimmel.
The soccer legend, 49, who is married to Victoria Beckham, stated confidently that the 34-year-old NFL star “can handle it” without issue.
“We know Taylor can definitely handle it,” Beckham said, referring to the pop sensation.
He shared a touching incident that helped him come to terms with past media scrutiny.
“Recently, we were in a pub in London, and I came out and on the windscreen on my car was a note, no name on it, just, ‘We’re so sorry for the way we treated you,’” recounted Beckham. “I liked that.”
“Signed everyone,” joked Jimmy.
Despite the hardships, David and Victoria Beckham have a family of four children: Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12.
“Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34 million and you’re still the broke boyfriend?” Kimmel jested. He also remarked on the oddity of being the boyfriend of the singer known as the Tortured Poets Department, saying, “You could be one of the great players of all time and this is the reaction you get to your contract extension.”
Kimmel highlighted social media reactions to Kelce’s contract, with comments calling him “cutie pie,” “pookiest pookie,” and “so babygirl.”
