Cristiano Ronaldo chooses ex-Manchester United midfielder as better player ahead of Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Marcelo
Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo picked Ryan Giggs over a plethora of Real Madrid legends. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed his choice in a chat with former teammate Rio Ferdinand.
Ronaldo’s channel, UR Ronaldo, uploaded a video of the two former Manchester United teammates. In it, Ferdinand quizzed the forward about who he thought was the best player he played with. In a fun format, the defender named two of his former teammates with the winner staying on for the next round. They were then compared to another former teammate of Ronaldo’s.
It started with the Manchester United players where the Portuguese picked Paul Scholes over Gary Neville, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, and Carlos Tevez. However, the midfielder came up second best against David Beckham.
Cristiano Ronaldo took a pause to pick between the two Manchester United legends. While he thought, Ferdinand reminded him about the time when his then teammates at Manchester teased him in training.
“S**t No. 7, you’re s**t No. 7,” Ferdinand recalled how they teased Cristiano after beating his team in training.
Ronaldo took offense if he was compared to the goalscoring records of other No. 7s.
“He would say, ‘Did Beckham score these many goals?’ ‘Did George Best score these many goals?’ ‘Did [Eric] Cantona score these many goals?’ He used to go crazy,” Ferdinand reminisced about Cristiano Ronaldo’s winning attitude in training.
Ronaldo picked Beckham over Scholes as well as former Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.
However, Beckham, who had also made the move from Manchester to Madrid a few years before Ronaldo did, lost out to Ryan Giggs. The 39-year-old picked the Welsh winger over Pepe, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, and even Toni Kroos. The Portuguese had shared the pitch 205 times with Giggs during their time together at Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo picked Benzema over Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs
While it seemed like Giggs would win it all, Karim Benzema’s name was put in front of the Portugal captain. Benzema and Ronaldo were two parts of the famous B-B-C trio at Real Madrid that also involved Gareth Bale.
The trio were at their prolific best scoring 442 goals for Los Blancos in the five seasons they played together between 2013 and 2018. Thirteen-time Premier League winner Ryan Giggs lost out to the French striker in Ronaldo’s list.
Benzema wasn’t able to beat his countryman Kylian Mbappe, however. One player who did though was the host as the Al-Nassr star chose Rio Ferdinand over the French striker. In the end, Rio Ferdinand put himself up against Cristiano Ronaldo to which the Portuguese said:
“I’ll give it to you.”
