The 36-year-old quarterback hasn’t played in the NFL for seven years, but in a recent conversation with Sky Sports, he revealed that he’s still getting ready in case he gets that call.

“We’re still training, still pushing,” said Kaepernick. “So hopefully, we’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”

If it’s not clear from that previous comment, Kaepernick is definitely ready to get back into the NFL. When asked about what it would mean for him to play in the league again, he revealed how huge he thinks it would be.

“I mean, it’s something I’ve trained my whole life for,” he said. “So to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. Also, I think it’s something that I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”

Kaepernick hasn’t played since the 2016 NFL season when he knelt for the national anthem prior to each game.

The last time that Kaepernick has had a formal workout for a team was with the Raiders in 2022 — but he never got signed.

In 2023, Kaepernick penned a letter to the Jets’ general manager Joe Douglas in hopes that he’d be able to join the team.

“I am sure of my ability to provide you with an elite QB option if, God forbid, QB1 goes down,” he wrote. “However, I know that there may naturally be uncertainties from you and possibly from others about my playing abilities.”

“This plan, I believe, allows me to be of great service to the team as a practice squad QB, while also giving you a low-commitment chance to assess my capabilities to help in any other capacity as you may see fit,” he continued.

J. Cole posted a screenshot of Kaepernick’s letter on Instagram in support. A lot of people loved Kaepernick’s drive — except for Charlamagne tha God who thought the letter was beneath him.

“God exalted Colin Kaepernick into a position of leadership in regard to activism, and it pains me to see that man still begging in the league that he called racist and compared to a plantation,” said Charlamagne on The Breakfast Club.
