Inter Miami fans hailed Lionel Messi’s teammate Leonardo Campana after he helped the team secure a 1-0 win over Toronto in the MLS. The Herons locked horns with the Reds at the BMO Field on Saturday night (October 5), with the Argentine ace and Luis Suarez starting on the bench.

Inter Miami struggled to take control of the game and had to turn to the former Barcelona superstars after the break. While Messi entered the pitch in the 61st minute, Suarez was subbed on 10 minutes later.

However, the MLS Supporter’s Shield champions still failed to break a stubborn Toronto side. When it looked like Inter Miami would drop points, Suarez set up Campana in the third minute of second-half injury time to secure a win.

Understandably, fans were full of praise for the Ecuadorean forward. One insisted that he is better than Cristiano Ronaldo, writing:

“Campana is so good, definitely better than ronaldo who only scores pens.”

Another insisted that Campana was carrying Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and posted:

“Campana carrying pessi and Suarez lmao.”

One fan was quick to praise the Uruguayan for his assist, commenting:

“Great assist from Suarez, amazing finish from Campana.”

One fan pointed out that Campana always delivers when needed, chiming in:

“You can ALWAYS count on Campana to give a last minute goal.”

One wrote:

“Messi got carried.”

One fan hailed Campana as Inter Miami’s unsung hero, writing:

“INTER MIAMI’S UNSUNG HERO LEO CAMPANA SAVING THE DAY AGAIN!!

Inter Miami will next face New England in their final game of the league campaign on October 19.

Lionel Messi could make further history with Inter Miami this month

Lionel Messi has been outstanding for Inter Miami since arriving in 2023. The Argentine great helped the club win the Leagues Cup last season and powered them to the Supporters’ Shield this year.

The Herons now have their eyes on the MLS Cup and are preparing for the playoffs. However, they are also at the threshold of MLS history.

The Florida-based side have 71 points in the Eastern Conference table with one game left. Should they beat New England after the international break, Inter Miami will register the highest points tally in a season in the league.

Interestingly, the record currently belongs to New England, who secured 72 points in 2021. With Lionel Messi in the team, Inter Miami will be quietly confident of making more history.

The 37-year-old has registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 18 MLS games this season.
