Barcelona finally explain why they didn't sign Nico Williams this summer

Nico Williams was the talk of the transfer window at Barcelona this summer but in the end, it was reported that the player chose to stay at Athletic Bilbao.

However, according to Barca’s sporting director Deco, it was the Catalans who decided to pull the plug on the transfer.

“I tell you again. We are talking about level. Today we have Raphinha, Ferran, the return of Ansu (who was very good in preseason),” Deco said in his chat on Barca One.

“Furthermore, Lamine and players like Fermin or Olmo can play there [on the left].

“To bring in a new player, he had to be of a very high level. The signing of Dani gave us more options.

“It’s not that we didn’t talk to players [like Nico Williams], but we had other priorities that were decisive in not bringing in another winger,” Deco said.
