‘She set brother up’: Janet Jackson Reveals Why She Fell Out With Oprah | HO
Honey, I’m not sure if you are aware, but apparently if there’s a family that cannot stand Oprah Winfrey it’s the Jacksons. And when I say the Jacksons I mean everybody including Janet Jackson! Allegedly!
The main problem Janet Jackson and the rest of the family have with Oprah is how she treated her brother Michael Jackson and contributed to the negative narrative that Janet has never believed in.
“I know my brother; he didn’t have that in him,” Janet has stated. Some believe that Oprah associated herself with people who trashed her brother and wanted him jailed simply to resurrect her career. However, the Jacksons, including Janet, have always maintained that the accusations against Michael were false. They have even suggested that Michael’s death may have been a setup. Janet expressed this sentiment, saying, “It’s still difficult for me to believe.”
Given these feelings, the Jackson family definitely has a problem with anyone who tarnishes Michael’s name, especially Oprah Winfrey. Many believe that Oprah’s infamous 1993 interview with Michael at his Neverland Ranch, which became the most-watched interview in television history, might have started a ripple effect that led to Michael’s negative public image.
During the interview, Oprah asked Michael about his friendships with young boys and why he spent so much time with them. Michael explained that he enjoyed being around children because they were innocent and pure, and he missed out on a normal childhood due to his fame. He invited children to his ranch to give them joy and happiness. However, Oprah insinuated that there was something inappropriate about his behavior and asked if he ever slept with children in his bed. Just a few months after the interview aired, the first accusations of s3xual abuse were made public, and Michael’s image was tarnished forever.
The situation worsened with the release of the documentary “Leaving Neverland,” where James Safechuck and Wade Robson recounted alleged abuse by Michael Jackson. Oprah supported the documentary and interviewed the accusers, which deeply disappointed Michael’s family. Taj Jackson, who grew up with Wade, expressed his outrage, saying, “It’s an ultimate betrayal.” Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s older brother, also criticized Oprah and other media outlets for taking the documentary at face value.
Brandy, another family member, couldn’t believe Oprah’s betrayal, especially after the many times the Jackson family had welcomed her. She felt that Oprah’s support for “Leaving Neverland” was politically motivated, aiming to bring Michael down.
Janet Jackson had already made it clear that she didn’t believe the accusations against her brother. For Oprah to push that agenda did not sit well with her. The way Oprah embarrassed Michael during the interview also angered the family. Oprah asked intrusive questions about Michael’s romantic life and whether he was a virgin, which he found uncomfortable. She also pressed him about his changing appearance, despite his explanation that it was due to vitiligo.
Oprah continued to question Michael about his relationship with his father, Joe Jackson, who had been accused of mistreating him and his siblings. Michael confirmed that his father had physically disciplined him but also expressed love for him. Oprah suggested that Michael needed therapy to heal from his trauma, which many felt was insensitive.
