Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni’s onscreen chemistry on Law & Order: SUV helped endear the crime drama series to fans soon after it premiered back in September 1999.

Over the years, the leading lady and man used their undeniable chemistry as Captain Olivia Benson and Detective Elliot Stabler to tease fans about a real-life romance.

And on Saturday the two actors gave yet another convincing performance when they posed as two people snuggled up together who are about to share a passionate kiss.

This all started with a dare of sorts from one of Meloni’s 469,500 Twitter fans and followers who shared a photo of the two stars acting out a love scene on set.

‘Can y’all imagine if one day @Chris_Meloni and @Mariska posts a picture like this pretending they are kissing with the caption #Rehearsing,’ the fan wrote.

‘It would be the end of us and the end of the internet.’

Meloni, 60, wasted little time and posted his steamy selfie of the two staring lovingly into each other’s eyes, with their noses touching, seemingly about to make out.

“#Rehearsing what @Mariska?’ he wrote alongside the photo, in a direct reference to the initial tweet.

Meloni’s Twitter photo and response didn’t exactly end the internet, but it did send many fans into a frenzy with a slew of replies.

One person shared their unbridled enthusiasm by posting a video that read: ‘This is exactly what I wanted.’

Someone else wrote, ‘I don’t know how you all make this stuff, but this is awesome! Lol!!’

One Law & Order fan called out the two stars, tweeting, ‘You are abusing your power over us!! I am dying here! Hopefully you are rehearsing for a real scene that will literally send us to the hospital! Oh! How I love you guys!’

‘Omg please let this be real or on screen I’ll settle for either!’ wrote another wishful follower.

In a response that shows just how much people need to escape from the stresses of everyday life, one person tweeted, ‘Thank you both so much for dropping content this week. With things the way they are & all that’s happening worldwide & individual people just dealing w/ anxiety & depression & loss & whatever else, you’ve managed to make things better & fill it with joy for a bit. That’s magic.’

And then there were those who used a bit of comedy to share their thoughts on Meloni and Hargitay’s steamy snap.

‘I am at AT&T trying to buy a new phone and my text notifications are going off for the technician so can we please schedule breaking the internet next time?!’ the tweet read.

The two stars’ chemistry didn’t wane through the years after Meloni left the show in 2011 after 12 seasons, as seen when Hargitay’s Captain Olivia Benson appeared in several episodes of the new spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime, which is led by Meloni’s Detective Elliot Stabler.

In a previous interview with People, the duo discussed their onscreen chemistry, where Hargitay summed it up to ‘the trust we have’ between us.’

She added, ‘He’s always made me feel like I could just jump off the ledge, the cliff, the bridge, and he would catch me, in so many ways, whether it was comedy or acting or friendship.’

Meloni again offered his unconditional support by weighing in: ‘It’s simple. We have each other’s back.’

Law & Order: Organized Crime premiered in April 2021 and within about month, it was renewed for a second season that’s slated to debut on NBC September 23.
