It’s been five years since Scarlett Johansson last graced the Oscars red carpet with her signature Old Hollywood style. And while we all knew her gorgeous beaded fringe gown with a silk skirt and train from Oscar de la Renta in 2020 would be tough to beat, the actress pulled off the seemingly impossible with her look at tonight’s 97th Academy Awards.

For the occasion, Johansson—who is serving as one of the evening’s presenters alongside Halle Berry, Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, and more—wore a regal Thierry Mugler creation from 1999. The navy-blue velvet gown featured a bitted bodice, sleeveless cowl neckline, and floor-grazing column skirt. She paired the 26-year-old dress with matching opera gloves and plenty of bling via a De Beers diamond choker and matching stud earrings.

As for beauty, the Academy Award winner glammed up with rosy makeup, complete with a bronzy smokey eye, peachy blush, and nude-pink lip. Johansson finished everything off by pulling her blonde locks back into a slicked back bun.
Back in 2020, Johansson received her first-ever Oscars nominations: one in the Best Actress category for her role in Marriage Story, and the other for Best Supporting Actress in Jojo Rabbit. Despite being the twelfth person in history to be double nominated, ScarJo didn’t take home any awards that night. But arguably, she didn’t completely lose, as she had her then-fiancé Colin Jost there by her side.

Supporting his leading lady at Hollywood’s biggest night of the year, Jost wore a classic black tuxedo with a matching bowtie and patent leather dress shoes. During award season, the Saturday Night Live star was a fixture on the red carpet, attending both the SAG Awards and Golden Globes alongside Johansson.
Later that year, the couple got married in October during the COVID-19 pandemic and welcomed their first child together, a son named Cosmo, in August 2021.
