Inter Miami to Welcome Philippe Coutinho and Lionel Messi, Ushering in a New Era of Football Greatness at Barcelona 2.0
When it comes to Inter Miami, Philippe Coutinho’s chances of playing alongside Lionel Messi are high. This is because, following his loan spell in Qatar, the attacker “doesn’t feature” in Aston Villa manager Unai Emery’s plans.

Al-Duhail of the Qatar Super League acquired the services of the 31-year-old Brazilian player in September on a short-term deal. In a 2-1 away win over Al-Markhiya, he scored in his professional debut. But in six games spanning four months, he has failed to find the back of the net.

Despite his upcoming return to the Midlands this month, reports indicate that Emery and the club executives at Villa are reportedly looking into other ways to send the player away, including a loan or a move.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Coutinho’s future in Major League Soccer is up for discussion, with several clubs targeting him, such as the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Galaxy.
With a transfer fee of 142 million pounds, Coutinho became the most expensive January signing in football history when he joined Barcelona in 2018. But nothing has changed professionally for him since the relocation six years ago.
After returning from Qatar this month, Philippe Coutinho is expected to go to the United States.
If Lionel Messi signs with Inter Miami this month, the 31-year-old Brazilian will get to play with him again.
Coutinho has struggled for playing time since Unai Emery replaced Steven Gerrard in October. He spent the 2019–2020 season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he had a productive spell scoring eight goals in 23 appearances and winning the Champions League. However, the Bavarians passed on the opportunity to sign him to a permanent contract for €120 million in the summer of 2020.
The following August, with new coach Ronald Koeman in place, Coutinho returned to Barcelona. Unfortunately, he missed the rest of the 2020–21 season due to a serious knee injury he suffered in December. After making 21 appearances for Villa Park and scoring five goals in the second half of the 2021-22 season, Coutinho made his stay permanent for a four-year contract for an undisclosed cost—estimated to be £17 million. Friendship with Steven Gerrard, the former manager of Aston Villa, led to Coutinho’s initial loan signing. But under Emery, Coutinho has quickly fallen down the attacking pecking order. Out of a possible 38 Premier League matches last season, he only appeared in 20 and scored once. Because Gerrard was let go in October 2022, this is what happened.
Coutinho may reunite with Messi in Miami, and he may also see former Barcelona and Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez, who joined the Herons for the 2024–25 season in December, on the field. Coutinho was known as “The Little Magician” in his native Portugal for his extraordinary passing and vision skills.
