Inter Miami created a surprising and interesting reunion with Lionel Messi when they reunited with their old teammate after nearly 20 years
Inter Miami has just recruited goalkeeper Oscar Ustari on a short-term contract, creating a surprising and interesting reunion with Lionel Messi after nearly 20 years.
Inter Miami has officially signed goalkeeper Oscar Ustari on a free transfer. This contract is temporary for about 4 months, to meet the urgent needs of the club at the end of the season.
At 38, Ustari was brought in to replace goalkeeper CJ dos Santos, who recently underwent surgery for a fracture in his left hand. With his vast experience, Ustari will take on the role of backup goalkeeper to Drake Callender, Inter Miami’s current No. 1 goalkeeper.
Oscar Ustari signs four-month contract with Inter Miami.
The decision to sign Ustari reflects Inter Miami’s ambition to win the Supporters’ Shield – an award given to the team with the best record in the MLS regular season. With the tournament still to play, David Beckham’s side need an experienced backup goalkeeper to ensure stability in the defense.
What is special and interesting about this deal is the relationship between Ustari and superstar Lionel Messi. The two have been close friends since their time playing for Argentina’s youth team. Together they have created memorable successes, including the 2005 U20 World Cup in the Netherlands and the 2008 Olympic gold medal in Beijing.
The reunion of Ustari and Messi at Inter Miami is considered a surprise and full of emotion. After nearly two decades, the two old friends now have the opportunity to play together in the colors of an American team.
This is good news for Messi as he has the opportunity to reunite with his old friend after 20 years.
Oscar Ustari has had a rich playing career, with many experiences in top leagues. In Argentina, Ustari played for famous clubs such as Independiente, Boca Juniors and Newell’s Old Boys. Not only that, the goalkeeper also had the opportunity to test his skills in Europe, playing for Getafe and Almeria in La Liga (Spain), as well as a short time at Sunderland (England).
By joining Inter Miami on a free transfer, Ustari will not need any time to complete the paperwork, allowing him to be available when required. Although his primary role is as a reserve goalkeeper, his vast experience will certainly provide valuable support to Drake Callender and the other young goalkeepers in the squad.
Messi and Ustari (in yellow) won the 2008 Olympic gold medal together.
In addition, having a former teammate by his side could help Messi feel more comfortable in his new environment in MLS. This could contribute to improving the team’s spirit and performance, especially in the upcoming important matches.
Inter Miami’s signing of Oscar Ustari is not only a move to strengthen the squad but also has deep emotional significance. The reunion between Ustari and Messi after nearly two decades promises to bring many interesting things to fans, and can become an important catalyst in Inter Miami’s journey to conquer MLS.
