BBMAs 2024 has concluded with many notable categories.

Early morning of December 13 (Vietnam time), the annual Billboard Music Awards 2024 (BBMAs) officially took place. The prestigious event attracted the attention of music fans around the world with top names participating such as Tyla, Linkin Park, Shaboozey, Megan Moroney,… This year’s Kpop representatives are SEVENTEEN  and Stray Kids. Since 2023, this awards ceremony has added categories for Kpop artists, recognizing the influence of the Korean music industry on the world.

However, this year’s BBMAs were less attractive than previous years when famous pop girls who “stormed” the music industry throughout the past year such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charlie xcx, Sabrina Carpenter and even rookie Chappell Roan were all absent. Previously, Billboard’s list of the 25 greatest pop stars of the 21st century caused widespread controversy when it lacked many prominent names such as Lana Del Rey, or Taylor Swift “came second” to Beyoncé.

Not stopping there, Billboard also used Taylor Swift’s sensitive image in the MV Famous – Kanye West honored the “Snake Queen” girl with 2nd place, causing fierce controversy. Because of this, netizens speculated that Taylor Swift must be “unhappy” with Billboard.

Despite the drama that broke out across all platforms, Taylor Swift still swept all categories of the 2024 BBMAs. She won 10 awards, bringing her total trophies to 49, surpassing Drake to become the star with the most BBMAs wins in history. Billboard also quickly posted a video looking back at Taylor Swift’s journey at the BBMAs over the years. This further shows how influential the “Snake Queen” has been to the music industry.

As for Kpop artists, Jung Kook, despite being in the army, is still capable of making miracles. With the album GOLDEN released at the end of 2023, BTS’s youngest member convincingly won 2 categories: Top Kpop Album (GOLDEN) and Top Global Kpop Song (Standing Next To You). With a series of unprecedented records achieved by the album GOLDEN on the Billboard charts, this victory has no representative more worthy than Jung Kook. 

The only Kpop representative attending the BBMAs this year is SEVENTEEN. Although in their 9th year of operation, with members gradually approaching the threshold of military service, SEVENTEEN is still in the golden age of their career. Last year, the million-selling boy group continued to set many album and tour sales records. The Asian tour Follow earned more than 100 million dollars in just 1 continent. The group made Kpop history when they filled 2 concert nights at Nissan Stadium, Japan with a scale of 140,000 spectators. 

SEVENTEEN lifted the Top Kpop Touring Artist trophy, marking a successful debut at the major music awards in the US.

Bringing the stage of Love, Money, Fame to the BBMAs, SEVENTEEN continued to prove the top performing ability of 10-year idols. The group also won the Top Kpop Touring Artist category, marking a successful debut at the major music awards in the US.
