As 2025 approaches, Barça trembles over Dani Olmo, who risks leaving for free as early as January. Florentino Pérez has been invited to join the race. While Real Madrid do not plan to sign players in January, Jesús Sánchez has suggested a cunning plan to the Merengues’ management.
For years, the Catalan rivals have been facing significant financial difficulties in conducting operations on the transfer market. After a major disappointment in the Nico Williams saga last summer, Joan Laporta and his team managed to secure Dani Olmo through financial acrobatics. However, with limited resources, Barça has only partially completed the registration of the midfielder. While Real Madrid and Iberian clubs are enjoying a brief winter break to celebrate Christmas and the New Year before resuming competition, calm has vanished in the Catalan camp.
Dani Olmo free in January? Florentino Pérez invited to sign him
“Florentino, do your magic and sign Dani Olmo! If he can’t continue at Barça, it would be an incredible signing for Madrid, and it would be a massive blow for the Culés,” Sánchez remarked recently in the Madrid-based newspaper. This suggestion is unlikely to sit well with the Catalans. Already relegated to third place despite having the talented Olmo, Barça would struggle to stomach the prospect of their star moving to the Bernabéu.

For now, there is no indication that Jesús Sánchez’s proposal will be acted upon by Florentino Pérez, who does not wish to strain relations with the Catalan leadership. Pleased with the state of the team and its current roster, the Real Madrid president is unlikely to take the risky step of pursuing Dani Olmo.
If Olmo is unable to register for the remainder of the season, he may either move to another destination, such as England, or wait until the end of the season in hopes of rejoining the Catalan side. It is worth noting that Real Madrid’s current priority is to prepare summer transfers, with names like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies at the top of their list.
