Speaking after the match at Anfield last night, coach Mikel Arteta said Arsenal played well and deserved to get points against Liverpool.
Speaking to reporters, coach Mikel Arteta felt the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool did not reflect the performance of his players throughout the 90 minutes.
“We are very disappointed with the result, I think we deserved more,” coach Arteta shared. “I think the whole team showed a lot of good things throughout the game, controlling the game very well in an extremely difficult place to do that. I think we took the game to a really high level.”
“They [Liverpool] only did that for about 15-20 minutes in the second half and after that they didn’t create many chances. And the game then could have been decided by an individual error that didn’t happen, or a moment of magic. Unfortunately, they got that through Szoboszlai with an unbelievable free-kick to win the game.”

Arteta has reason to be disappointed as Arsenal fall to Liverpool
Despite his disappointment, Arteta still praised Cristhian Mosquera – who he brought on to replace the injured William Saliba early in the match.
Facing one of the strongest attacks in the tournament, the Spanish defender played brilliantly alongside Gabriel in defence. That is also the reason why the Spanish coach did not hesitate to praise the 21-year-old star.
“Playing the first match at Anfield after coming on for Saliba because of injury is very, very difficult, but Cristhian was extraordinary,” Mikel assessed.
“I think you have to have that character and that personality to perform like that, and as we said, with everyone’s support, he had a really good match.”
After a trip to Anfield, Arsenal will head into the September FIFA Days break. They are currently third with six points from three games, having scored six goals and conceded just one.
Analysing the team’s start, Arteta said: “There are a lot of positives and I think today the result could have been different, very different. Unfortunately, we’ve had a lot of injuries, so hopefully after the break we’ll be in a better state.”
“I think the team is showing signs of very, very good quality, so we need to keep that going.”
