Singer Sam Smith was criticized by many people for wearing oversized, sloppy clothes at the movie premiere.
The Unholy singer was one of the guests at the Barbie movie premiere on July 12. He wore an oversized blue sweatshirt and wide-leg jeans from Vetements’ Spring Summer 2024 collection.

According to Pagesix, on Twitter, most people criticized Smith’s “red carpet outfit” as inappropriate. They wrote: “He’s wearing normal clothes to attend a movie premiere?”, “That’s the worst red carpet outfit I’ve ever seen”, “Please stop. What a fashion disaster”, “Doesn’t he have anything fancy?”.
Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie – the two main actors – received a “shower” of compliments from the audience. Gosling scored in a mint green suit. Paying tribute to the 1961 Barbie Enchanted Evening, Robbie wore a custom-designed Vivienne Westwood vintage pink corset with roses attached to the hips.

In recent years, Sam Smith has often appeared in strange outfits. At the 2023 BRIT, the singer wore an inflatable rubber suit that looked like a ball, which was criticized by the audience for being eccentric. He once wore an oversized Valentino outfit on the Grammy red carpet. In the music video I’m Not Here to Make Friends, Smith also received mixed reactions from the audience when he wore a corset with a see-through dress. In 2020, the singer attracted attention when he wore a giant dress that covered most of the stage during a show in Australia.
In an interview with the Sunday Times in January, Smith said it took him years to accept himself and his appearance after struggling with body dysmorphia. “I was liberated, freed from the pressures I felt when I was younger. My mother said that when I got older, I wouldn’t care so much about what people thought. And she was right.”
Sam Smith was born in 1992 in London, England. He started singing in 2007, gaining attention with the song Latch (2012) with the electronic music group Disclosure. In 2014, he released his debut album and was a worldwide success. Some of Sam’s hits include I’m Not the Only One, Stay With Me or Writing’s on the Wall (James Bond soundtrack). During his career, Sam has won four Grammy Awards, three BRIT Awards, three Billboard Awards and won the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Original Score.
