Why Kelli Giddish Is Leaving ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Kelli Giddish, known for her role as Detective Amanda Rollins on “Law & Order: SVU,” has surprised fans by revealing that the current season will be her last. Joining the series in 2011, Giddish quickly became a beloved figure, particularly celebrated for her character’s dynamic with Peter Scanavino’s Dominick Carisi.
In an emotional Instagram post, Giddish addressed speculation about her departure, confirming her exit from the long-running show after Season 24. “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life,” she wrote, expressing gratitude for her 12-year tenure with the “Law & Order” family. “There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins,” she added, reflecting on her growth both personally and professionally during her time on the show.
While Giddish did not elaborate on the reasons behind her departure, reports surfaced indicating that the decision may have been influenced by discussions regarding her salary and the show’s future direction. Variety reported that the shake-up was initiated from higher management as part of efforts to keep the series current and evolving.
Despite the decision, support for Giddish remains strong among her co-stars and production team. Showrunner David Graziano expressed admiration for Giddish’s professionalism and indicated his desire to collaborate with her again in the future. Mariska Hargitay, executive producer and co-star, also voiced her disappointment, posting a heartfelt tribute to Giddish on social media.
Fans have rallied behind Giddish, expressing their sadness over her departure and admiration for her contributions to the iconic series. As the season progresses, viewers await the conclusion of Detective Rollins’ journey and celebrate Giddish’s impactful portrayal on “Law & Order: SVU.”
