“The Fatherless Child” and a Bullied Childhood

When Eminem was 6 months old, he was abandoned by his father. Marshall Bruce Mathers abandoned his wife and young child to “find a new and better life”.

Later, when he became a famous singer, Slim Shady – another name for Eminem – openly talked about his not-so-good relationship with his biological father. The rapper born in 1972 also did not hide the fact that he and his mother were abandoned.

However, according to the Daily Star , when the Love The Way You Lie singer became famous worldwide, Mr. Marshall tried to contact his son. Previously, when interviewed by a news site, he said he refused to meet and had never contacted his ex-wife.

In 2011, Mathers told The Mirror that he didn’t care about Eminem’s money or status, he just wanted to see his son again. “I just want to talk to him. I want him to know that his father is still here and ready to come back if Marshall lets him,” he shared.

However, the rapper born in 1972 never wanted to reconcile with his biological father. In the song My Name Is, Eminem spoke about his father with hateful words. “When you see my father, tell him I slit his throat in your dreams,” he wrote in the song.

Eminem’s hatred for his biological father stems from the fact that he was severely bullied in high school because there were no adults around to protect him.

In the song Brain Damage, the singer talks about his past when “fat boy” DeAngelo Bailey forced him to submit. “I was harassed and bullied every day by that fat boy. It was the disgusting behavior of an 8th grader,” he wrote.

The singer also said he was traumatized by being forced into a study cabinet every day. He was once bullied by Bailey while in the bathroom.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, DeAngelo Bailey admitted to bullying the singer in high school. Shortly after, he sued Eminem for defamation, but the case was dismissed by the court.

“Ironically it was a ‘diss rap’ so Bailey couldn’t do anything about it,” commented the Daily Star .

“The Unfilial Son” and a Late Apology

Eminem is called an unfortunate child because not only was he abandoned by his biological father, he also suffered a lot of abuse from his mother. Mrs. Deborah is mentally ill after experiencing many shocks.

In 1996, Deborah was stripped of custody of Nathan Mathers, Eminem’s half-brother. He claimed to have raised his brother after his mother showed signs of mental illness.

In the song Cleanin Out My Closet, Eminem claims that Deborah suffered from Munchausen’s syndrome, a condition that causes her to intentionally inflict pain on others. He also criticizes her mother for being an addict and irresponsible.

In April 2001, the Associated Press reported that the Venom singer was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to concealing a weapon during an argument at a nightclub in Detroit, USA.

According to AP, Eminem told police that he saw nightclub security guard John Guerra kissing his wife, so he pulled out a gun to threaten and assault her. Previously, the media was shocked by the news that he was facing 5 years in prison. However, Eminem was given a suspended sentence because he had no previous convictions.

“That’s enough time to punish Eminem. I think he will think carefully before doing something crazy,” said judge Antonio Viviano.

After the trial, the singer affirmed that he would rebuild his life. “The stressful days are over, I have to change my mind, spend time with my daughter and music,” he told AP .

In addition to family and personal turmoil, Eminem also had an equally tumultuous marriage.
